Avocado Plant Leaves Curling Up
Avocado leaves can curl when the tree is overwatered.
Avocado plant leaves curling up. Do we need to bring it in for the winter. If the air gets extremely cold say low 20s then avocado leaves completely brown and dry up within days and they don t even drop from the tree. I think it is stressed because of this and hence the curling. I ve never seen upward curled avocado leaves indicating any problem.
If your tree grows new leaves at all they will be small and sparse and the stems leading to the leaves will be soft the touch. And when an avocado tree is thirsty its leaves wilt and flatten or curl downward. Here are some suggestions from julian sauls an expert on avocados. We have an avocado plant started from seed which is really shooting up.
When the roots can t perform their function of supplying water to the leaves the leaves curl and turn yellow or brown. Try adjusting your watering schedule or making a watering well or watering basin beneath each tree. I suspect both your trees are showing symptoms of too much water or soil that doesn t drain well and remains soggy for long periods of time. It is about 20 24 tall.
When an avocado tree is overwatered the leaf shape doesn t change. Thirsty leaves drenched roots too much water leads to root rot in avocado trees. The stems will become soft as well. Pls advise on what to do.
The new leaves of my avocado tree is distorted or curled up. It has nice large leaves on it but the lower leaves keep turning curling and dying off. Leaves are strong due to turgidity as key cells are pumped with water. Humidifier to the rescue to keep the leaves in top shape you need to try increasing the humidity as much as possible and the easiest way of doing so is with a humidifier.
It is likely the full exposure reduced this turgidity. However over time the leaf color can change to a paler green and if the roots rot then the size of the leaves will be small. Soon the large but thin leaves of the avocado begin to lose water more quickly than the plant can replace it and when that happens the cells begin to die leading to browning.
